PrincipalSound (an improvisation)

Franz Danksagmüller

I recorded this musical improvisation while I was organist and composer in the cathedral at St. Pölten in Austria. It refers to baroque "Elevation-" Toccatas by G. Frescobaldi and J. J. Froberger, which are played with an organ stop called "Voce umana", which consists of two pipe ranks. One of these is slightly detuned.

The sounds are organ solo + organsounds processed with Kyma. The detuning in the beginning happened by playing the organ with feet and one hand and the Continuum played with the other hand (with a sampled organ sound). Also the technique of reducing the wind of the organ was used in order to put the pipes out of tune.
